The Foundation of My Practice

As an animal naturopath and researcher focused on longevity and oncology, I have spent the last thirty years looking for the root cause of health. My work is centered on finding natural and sustainable ways to keep our pets vibrant and healthy for as long as possible. Over the course of my career, I have conducted more than five thousand consultations with pet owners from all over the world. When you analyze that much data over such a long period, clear patterns begin to emerge. You start to see exactly what builds the immune system up and, more importantly, what breaks it down.

The Pattern of Over-Vaccination

The immune system is the master key to health and longevity. When it is balanced and in a state of homeostasis, it can fend off chronic disease and even keep cancer at bay. However, one factor has appeared in my records repeatedly as a major disruptor of that balance: the effect of repeated vaccinations on an already compromised system. I have seen countless cases where the timing is too consistent to be a coincidence. I have documented pets where cancer appeared just three to six months after a rabies booster. I have seen pets battling cancer who were stable and doing well suddenly and significantly decline immediately after receiving a mandatory rabies shot.

Documented Side Effects

The side effects I have observed in my practice are not just mild lethargy. I have seen new-onset seizures, severe allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, acute respiratory distress, and sudden collapse. We do not yet fully understand the long-term cumulative effects of repeated vaccinations on our domestic animals. What we do know is that for a pet with less than optimal health, a high-potency vaccine is a massive physiological stressor. Vaccines are designed to trigger an immune response, but when an animal’s immune system is already struggling, that trigger can push them over the edge into a state of chronic inflammation or immune failure.

Proof of Protection Exists

Science tells us that proof of protection exists without the need for constant boosters. In my practice, many owners have provided laboratory proof that their pets still possessed robust antibody levels seven to nine years after their initial injections. If a pet is already carrying the antibodies they need to fight off rabies, we are achieving nothing by forcing another injection into a fragile body. Based on my experience and the data from hundreds of cases, I firmly believe that we can offer a titer test alternative for health-compromised pets with no risk to the community.

The Challenge of Animal Naturopathy

Navigating this path as an animal naturopath comes with unique challenges. The traditional veterinary landscape has historically overlooked natural modalities. In conventional veterinary schooling, the focus is largely on pharmaceutical intervention and reactive treatment. Consequently, many practitioners were taught to be skeptical of natural remedies or were even discouraged from exploring them entirely. This creates a disconnect between the clinical success I have observed over three decades and the traditional standard of care.

The Rise of Integrative Care

Fortunately, the tide is finally turning. There is a growing movement of integrative veterinarians who recognize that the best results occur when we combine the life-saving capabilities of modern medicine with the preventative, immune-supporting power of naturopathy. I am proud to work alongside a network of progressive doctors who value homeostasis and longevity over rigid, outdated mandates. These partnerships allow us to treat the whole animal rather than just the symptom. We are not asking to eliminate safety; we are asking to use science to prove it. By recognizing the 0.5 IU/mL titer standard, Summit County can protect the public while finally giving a medical safety valve to the pets who need it most.

About Thomas Sandberg

Thomas Sandberg, CSAN, CCNC, AADP, is a board-certified Animal Naturopath and the founder of the Long Living Pets Research Projects. For over 20 years, Thomas has conducted the world’s largest observational study on raw-fed pets, documenting the health and longevity of 5,000 animals. As a researcher focusing on oncology and pet longevity, he has conducted over 500 in-depth consultations with pet owners wordlwide, focusing on the intersection of nutrition, immunology, and chronic disease.

Based in Summit County, Utah, Thomas is a leading advocate for evidence-based animal health. Through the Rabies Titer Choice initiative, he combines decades of clinical observation with modern immunology to advocate for safer, science-led vaccination policies that protect the health and homeostasis of our domestic animals.
